wedding

Matthew and Maris's wedding was beautiful! Ryan was the photographer and was having so much fun. This was his first time photographing a wedding and the pictures turned out great.
Everytime I tell someone my brother got married in Finland there are always tons of questions. So if you don't know the whole story, here you go!

My brother Matthew served his mission in Estonia. He speaks Estonian and Russian. He loved the country and the people so much he's been back a few times for various reasons. Most recently, to get his masters from the university of Tartuu in Russian/Estonian relations. He met Maris at church in their small branch about a year ago and they hit it off, getting engaged last summer.

Maris is a convert. and yes, she speaks great English. She and her sister ran into the missionaries at a bus stop. They were invited to church. Went to church that next Sunday and the rest is history. Both Maris and her sister were baptized. Matthew was the one who baptized Maris. Because you need to be a member of our church for at least one year before entering the temple, they were engaged for about 9 months, getting married exactly a year after she was baptized. For more information on our LDS temples, click here. I think that answers most of the questions I get asked most often.

Did you know the Helsinki Temple serves the greatest geographical area of LDS members? It covers most of Russia, Estonia and Finland.

A winter wedding brought back lots of memories from my wedding of running to put your coat on in between pictures. burrr!

Walking into the wedding luncheon where, by the way, we all got to sample reindeer meat at the buffet. It was really salty and definitely not anyone's favorite. but interesting.

How do you keep your kids happy during a LONG day of waiting, pictures, more waiting and a fancy lunch? Give them a camera!! This is my best travel trip for all of you with kids. We brought 2 cameras on our trip. The kids camera and the grown up camera. They LOVED being able to take pictures just like mom and dad at all the sites. and it kept them very happy and also provided some very interesting and funny pictures.
And to read about their wonderfully warm honeymoon in the Canary Islands, click here and here . After the worst winter in 20 years, they definitely deserved to go somewhere tropical.

Ryan is brave to take wedding pictures for free--nice work though. This is Michael Asay, who grew up down the street from Ryan.

It's family. Not sure why that makes me brave...? Actually, I think no charge takes some of the stress away. Was a great learning opp for me. The hard part was that it was literally freezing and no one wanted to be there taking pictures...including the bride and groom. :)

Ryan takes some amazing pictures. And I love their story. Where will they be living after he is done with school? And how fun that they went to the Canary Islands on their honeymoon - when I was there I never got to take advantage of their gorgeous beaches, but I saw them at least :).
