Chinatown

This actually ended up being our worst "family fun" day. It looked fun in my guide book, but the day didn't go as planned. We went to visit Chinatown, down in Yokohama, just south of Tokyo. It's huge, very crowded and a definite reminder that the Chinese were among the first and most ambitious foreigners in Japan. The problem was, it was freezing cold! We were right on the bay and it was very windy...the kids were miserable. We stopped at a little booth to sample something that resembled a dumpling. Then Trent gagged himself and it all came back up...in the middle of a store. So we called it quits for Chinatown and grabbed some lunch at the McDonald's around the corner. Trent was much happier.



After visiting Chinatown, the guide book said to go down to the pier and take a tour of theHikawa Maru Passenger Liner, a retired cruise ship that used to travel back and forth between the US and Japan from 1930-1960. Charlie Chaplin rode this boat. During the war it was used as a hospital and was one of the few to stay intact. But it was closed!!! My book said it would be open through the New Years holidays and we went on Dec. 31 and it was closed. So we took a picture, loaded everyone back into the car, and drove home. Not the fun day I had hoped for.
