Yesterday was quite an exciting day. It started in the afternoon when we heard a loud bang. I assumed it was probably just some sort of construction accident or loud noise because there is a lot of construction around our house. But then we notice 7 helpicopters flying in a circle just off to the side of our house. They circled for four hours. The kids were having a ball counting and watching the helicopters. We later discovered that a spa facility actually exploded not too far from us over in Shibuya-one of my favorite shopping areas-- about a 15 minute walk away. It's got Haagen Daaz, the Disney Store and Saturday I found the most beautiful dress in Shibuya...Anyways, they think it was caused by underground methane gas that may have built up in the structure and caught fire, causing the explosion. Three people were killed and the entire building is gone.
And here's an example about the importance of translating the right word. At work a woman told Ryan it was a bomb, which made it even more scary! Then later, we realized she only meant explosion which totally changes the story. It was an interesting day for sure.
On a side note: today we finally turned on the air conditioning! This is the first time since we've been married we have lived in a place with air conditioning. Except our 2 month college internship when Emily was a baby. And with the humidity here--we are so thankful!! It makes me never want to leave the house again. I love it!!!!!

How on earth did you live in San Jose without AC all those years? In Savannah we run our AC almost year round :).
So glad it wasn't a bomb, but how sad about the poor people who died.
How scary! I'm glad you and your family were safe and that it wasn't really a bomb.
