well here they are! my 5th grader and 3rd grader. today was day 4 of school. are we the last ones to start school or what? and they are doing great. Both kids got teachers from New Zealand! Trent got Emily's old 3rd grade teacher, Mr. Rolls. He is the funniest teacher. literally has the kids laughing and falling out of their desks all the time. and Emily got a new teacher, Ms. Matai. Emily really likes her and says she's really nice.best thing about the first day: Swimming!! both kids got lucky and got the first PE time slot for swimming lessons. you get 8 weeks at some point during the school year. but in years past, we've had December/January which means wet hair during recess. brrr.
best things about 3rd grade: getting to check out 3 library books. it's 2 books for kids K-2 grade. and also, getting a bigger food portion at lunch. grades 3 and up pay an extra 50 cents. and today Trent was SO excited that he got 7 chicken nuggets instead of the usual 5. I guess that extra 50 cents really pays off.
best thing about 5th grade: getting to check out 5 library books, starting choir and ruling the school. (it's a K-5 school)

How fun! This is their last year of school in Japan, isn't it? Isn't it crazy that you have a 5th grader?
PS. Have you guys seen the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie? Your kids would love it :).
